Model UN students from China visit Beaver, celebrate Lunar New Year

Beaver hosted 30 visiting students from China this past Tuesday. The students, who were in Boston to attend the Harvard Model UN conference, spent the day shadowing Beaver MUN members and Chinese-language students – attending classes, participating in the day’s activities (including the Upper School Color War competitions), and celebrating the Lunar New Year.

In addition, the Beaver MUN team held a Model UN session in the Rogers Room during club block, and visiting students participated in a Mock Committee on Climate Change. Afterwards, students engaged in an intercultural dialogue where they shared their high schools experiences with one another and talked about their hopes for the future.

“I loved learning about their life back home and talking about how different their school life is from mine,” said Christine Bourdeau ’17.

In Upper School Chinese class, students practiced their calligraphy skills and continued to talk about their lives.

“I was happily surprised with how easy it was to make a connection with someone from across the world and maneuver around language barriers,” said Chloe Page ’18.
