Information about Beaver Senior Internships

This May, Beaver seniors will undertake an internship or an intensive project to provide each student an opportunity to participate in a focused, in-depth and hands-on learning experience as the culmination of their Beaver education. The internship period dates are: May 2 – June 8 and students will commit 20-30 unpaid hours per week for the internship.

How can you help?
If you, or someone you know, can host a student volunteer or intern during this year’s project period, please click here to provide us with a bit more information by January 6. We will follow up with you to make sure our expectations for student-interns match your expectations as a host. Because student interest is a primary goal, it is possible that we may not be able to match your internship with a senior candidate this year, but we’d love to keep you in our file for the future.

Examples of past senior internships

Example: Last year a small group of students were able to intern at a startup company located in Boston. Interns participated in company updates, attended meetings, sat in on entrepreneur pitches, and saw the daily operations of a venture capital organization. Students were also able to engage in conversations with different employees, attend local company trips, and research details that helped the students learn more about what it takes to make a start up company successful.

Example: One student had the opportunity to intern at an architectural firm with a focus on educational facilities. During that time, the intern had the opportunity to work in several areas of the practice. They were able to build physical models for presentations, work on graphics/rendering programs to develop project images, attend project strategy meetings, visit construction job sites, and organize marketing materials.

What makes a successful internship?

Successful internships revolve around giving opportunities for students to learn. They can attend meetings to observe the inner workings of a company, shadow different individuals in the organization as well as interview them regarding the aspects of their profession, or complete independent projects that benefit the company. They should be able to reflect on their experience such that it creates new perspectives for the student on a profession they may want to pursue in the future.
