Girls Varsity Soccer –
Last week the girls varsity soccer team concluded their season with a game at LCA. After conceding a tough goal to close out the first half, the girls battled back to tie the game on a fantastic header by Nadia Bednarczuk ’15. The game remained tied until 12 minutes remaining as LCA took the lead. The girls finished the season in 5th place in the EIL, and look to build on the successes of the past 2 years moving forward.
Boys Varsity Soccer –
The boys varsity soccer team had one game this past week, as they travelled to LCA for the final regular season and final EIL match. Looking to preserve an undefeated league campaign, the team played well throughout. Despite some quality defending and spectacular play from LCA’s keeper, the Beaver boys were able to come away with a solid 3-0 win. Alex Zecca ’15 tallied all three goals in the win. The team has earned the #3 seed for the NEPSAC tournament, and will host #6 Holderness at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Varsity Volleyball –
The girls varsity volleyball team wrapped up their season last week with three tough games including a win at Landmark. The team finished the season strong implementing complex set plays in their final two games. The concept of running set plays off of free-balls is extremely advanced and beyond most teams in the league. The team’s ability to effectively execute these plays is a testament to both the skills of the individual players and the dedication that the team as a whole has put forward throughout the season. The team was extremely successful this season in terms of development, and there is a lot to look forward to next season as the returning players have an advance understanding of the game to develop in 2015.
Varsity Field Hockey –
The Beaver field hockey team finished up their season last week with a 2-0 loss on Wednesday against LCA. On Friday they had a hard fought battle against Southfield, but ended up with a 4-2 loss. Senior Christina Madden and Junior captain Micki Pierce each scored in the first half.
Varsity Golf –
The varsity golf team participated in the EIL Tournament on Wednesday, which was held at Stow Acres Country Club. It was 18 holes of stroke play, where the team competed against six of the seven other teams in the league. For the regular season, the team finished tied for fifth with LCA and behind Berwick and Portsmouth Abbey who were League Co-Champions, and Pingree and Bancroft. In the tournament, the team finished in 4th place, behind Berwick, who won the tournament, Portsmouth Abbey, who came in second place and Pingree, who came in third. They beat Bancroft, who came in 5th place, LCA, who came in sixth place, and Landmark, who came in 7th place. Hudson Roddy ’18 shot the lowest round of the day for Beaver shooting an 88. Jacob Florence ’19 was next shooting a 91. Then came Joey Kremer ’15 who shot a 92, Aram Soultanian ‘1, who shot a 99, captain Zach Rosenberg ’15 shot a 104, and Ben Snyder 17 shot a 109. The team will greatly miss their two seniors, captain Zach Rosenberg ’15 and Joey Kremer ’15.
Varsity Cross Country –
Both the boys and the girls cross country teams had an exciting last meet of the season at New England’s, which was held at Hyde School in Bath, ME on 11/9/14. The boys varsity placed 6th out of 24 teams with captain Sam Glenn ’16 placing 9th overall. The boys JV also ran a great race, placing 4th with 3 in the top 20; Jake Cowen-Whitman ’18, Jackson Wu ’17, and Ben Campbell ’18. The girls also ran a fantastic race, and while they didn’t have a full team, those who ran left everything out on the course! They had two girls in the top 10; Libby Pohl ’17 placed 2nd and Michaela Markwart ’18 placed 8th overall. Both teams also had some 5k personal bests.
