Boys’ Varsity Soccer
The Boys’ Varsity Soccer team played two league games again this past week. On Wednesday, the boys hosted Bancroft and won 4-1. The team carried play and created numerous quality chances throughout. On Friday, the team traveled to Berwick with a chance to clinch a second consecutive EIL title. Despite a valiant effort and some quality defensive play from Berwick, Michael Gray ’14 hit a perfect 30 yard diagonal ball in the 64th minute to a streaking Silmar Bueno ’14, who deftly beat his man, and drilled a hard shot into the far corner. Bueno ’14 struck again in the dying minutes as Adam Kulick ’17 clipped a clever ball to the back post. Bueno ’14 clanged his header off of the crossbar, but finished his own rebound to seal the 2-0 win. With the two wins on the week, the team stands at 12-1-0 in league play and 14-3-0 overall. This week, the boys will round out the regular season as they travel to LCA on Wednesday.
Girls’ Varsity Soccer
The Girls’ Varsity Soccer team began their final push for a postseason spot with a game at perennial power Winsor. After a solid start to the match, things slipped away before a late goal by Lindsay Bouscaren ’17. After that tough loss, the girls returned home for a pivotal match against Berwick. After giving up a first half goal, the team rebounded quickly to even the score at the half. Neither team was able to score in the second half, and the game ended in a 1-1 draw. The girls conclude their 2013 campaign with a huge game at home against LCA on Wednesday.
Cross Country
The Beaver Boys’ and Girls’ Country teams competed at the EIL Championships Friday, November 1 at historic Franklin Park.
The Girls’ team finished 8th out of 9 teams and was led by ALL EIL Freshmen Libby Pohl who placed 10th overall in a stacked girls field. Rounding out the top 7 for Beaver was Senior Alexandra Bernard, Junior Catherine Wei, Sophomore Alexia Duarte, Freshmen Jackie Morris and Elizabeth Racicot.
The Boys’ team had a gutsy performance and finished 5th out of 8 teams. The team was once again led by Senior George Wright who finished 3rd overall, earning himself All EIL honors. Senior Captain Murray Skolnick also had a good race just missing the top 10 finishing in 12th place. Freshman Ryan Joy was 21st overall and was the second freshman to finish the race. He was followed by Freshman Will French, Sophomore Niles Cohen, Captain Clay Starr and Sophomore Kent Ellertson.
Both teams will finish off their season on Saturday, as they travel to the NEPSTA DIVISION IV CHAMPIONSHIPS, which will be hosted by Marianapolis Academy in Thompson, CT. The Championship is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
Varsity Field Hockey
Beaver Varsity Field Hockey played Berwick on Friday. It was a very competitive game between both teams, leaving the field 0-0 at half. Berwick scored a few quick goals and Beaver ended up losing 3-0. Overall it was a good team effort by everyone and Beaver Field Hockey will be back in action away on Wed. vs LCA.
