Athletic accolades beyond Beaver

Several of our students had a very successful 2012-2013 athletic year beyond Beaver sports. From synchronized skating to gymnastics, our students excelled on national and international levels. 

Mark Springett ’13, Gymnasticsmark

Senior Mark Springett finished his high school gymnastics career strong at the 2013 Men’s Junior Olympic National Championships. Competing against 130 gymnasts, Mark won 3 medals: 6th All Around, tied for 4th on Parallel Bars and 5th on Still Rings. Overall, Mark had a very successful season, winning All Around in every competition he entered — including the Massachusetts States Championship and Region 6 (New England) Championship — before Nationals. He is now looking forward to continuing his gymnastics career competing for University of Iowa’s Division I team.

Lauren Lapuck ’13, Synchronized Skatinglauren-lapuck-skating
Lauren Lapuck is a member of the 2013 World Bronze Medalists and 2013 U.S. National Gold Medalists synchronized skating team, the Haydenettes. The Haydenettes are the most successful U.S. synchronized skating team in the history of the sport, having earned 21 U.S. National Gold Medals, four World Bronze Medals, and have represented the United States in every World Championship since the International Skating Union (ISU) sanctioned the first World Championship event in 2000. Lauren has been a member of the team for the past four years. In addition, earlier this year she was selected as a member of the United State Figure Skating Scholastic Honors Team.

Maria Zecca ’13, Soccermaria-zecca-soccer-international
Maria Zecca played for the Italian Women’s National Team (under 19) this fall, earning three caps in 2012 and scoring a goal in her first international cap against Kazakhstan. She helped her team advance to the second round of the Euro Qualifiers. Maria will play at the College of Charleston this fall.

Michael Gray ’13, Zack LaCava ’14, Silmar Bueno ’14,Soccer
Zack, Silmar, and Michael won the Massachusetts Under 17 State Cup Championship earlier this summer with the MPS Knights. After winning their semi-final against FC Blazers on penalty kick’s after regulation ended in a 4-4 tie, the team went on to win the final against Crusaders United 2-1 in OT.

 

Caroline Hill ’14, Lacrosse
caroline-hill-lacrosse-all-american-mentionJunior Lacrosse Captain Caroline Hill received Honorable Mention All-American. A U.S. Lacrosse All-American is one of the best players in the United States, while also embodying excellent sportsmanship. In total, 297 players received first-team honors nationally and 145 players received honorable mention recognition nationally. Caroline is one of only two players from the Eastern Independent League to receive this recognition.

 

Jimmy Bell ’15, Archeryjimmy-bell-archery
Jimmy Bell is on his way to qualifying for the U.S. archery team. He placed 7th at Nationals in the Cadet compound bow (U17) and he came in 3rd in the country for the Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) in his age group. Most recently, he won the gold medal at the Arizona Cup, where he competed against boys from across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. This tournament was one of four qualifiers for the USA team.

Sam-Nelson-'16-and-Max-Cotrell-'16,-SoccerSam Nelson ’16 and Max Cotrell ’16, Soccer
Sam and Max won the Massachusetts Under 15 State Cup Championship earlier this summer with the MPS Bulldogs. Having finished as runner ups at both U13 and U14, the Bulldogs beat the SF Vikings 2-1 in the semi-finals and then the NEFC Elite 3-0 in the finals.
