Girls’ Tennis

The Beaver Girls’ Varsity Tennis Team started where they left off last season, and opened their season with a decisive win over Boston Trinity Academy (4-1). The team has been working very hard and trying to stay warm in the adverse conditions. They have already shown incredible improvement from last year, and it is clear these girls want to win their first EIL title in over 20 years. The quest for that banner will begin next Wednesday, with their home opener against Bancroft.

Boys’ Tennis

The Boys’ Varsity Team kicked off its Spring campaign in a scrimmage against Belmont Hill School this past week.  Senior Jon Marsh, in his first match at the #1 Singles’ position, grinded out an impressive victory against Belmont’s Charlie Schwartz. In addition, Sophomore Marc Davis, in his first match as a Varsity player, defeated his opponent decisively.

Although these were Beaver’s only two victories on the day, the new Varsity team, which consists of 5 rookie players, played with veteran calm and determination.

Boys’ Lacrosse

The Boys Lacrosse Program opened the 2013 season, on Tuesday, with a solid victory on the road vs. Boston Trinity.  Reilly McDonnell won the first face off, quickly transitioned the ball down field on a fast break, to a nifty “draw and dump” to Senior Captain Dom Smith.  Junior Ben Hicks lead the way for Beaver with 4 goals and 1 assist on the day.  Michael Gray, Reilly McDonnell, and Dom Smith had three goals a piece to help secure the win.

On Wednesday the Beaver squad faced off against a much stronger opponent in BB&N, on their turf.  Beaver secured a quick 1-0 lead from the first whistle, but the veteran home team was a difficult match up for the Beaver boys.  Goalies Lucas Judson and Dan MacDonald split time between the pipes and held the game close for a majority of the afternoon.  As Beaver’s first and second mid lines began to ware down, the Knight’s were able to secure some distance on the scoreboard and eventually lock down the “W”.

The Beaver Lacrosse Team is positioned at 1-1 going into this Saturday’s home opener vs. Portsmouth Abbey

Girls’ Lacrosse

The Beaver Girls’ Lacrosse team faced two tough opponents last week: Southfield and Worcester Academy. Senior Captain Tess Anderson led the team against Southfield with 4 goals and one assist. Junior Goalkeeper Stephanie Soto Rivera saved over half of the shots taken on goal. In the end, Beaver came up short with a final score of 6-13. On Saturday, Junior Captain Caroline Hill led the team with 5 goals and 3 assists– a career record and team record this season for total points. Junior Riley Nelson also contributed 2 goals and one assist. Despite a true team effort, the game ended in a tough loss with a final score of 9-10.
