Girls Basketball

The girls varsity basketball team had a successful week of competition going 2-0 to move their record to 11-0.  It began with a great team effort vs. class B Brooks School. Against a veteran Brooks squad, the Beaver defense held strong and limited them to 12 points in the first half. The second half was more of an uptempo game, but Beaver would prevail 53-38. The offense was led by Ciara Dillon ’16 and Stephanie Soto-Rivera ’14. Saturday the girls headed to Bancroft and overpowered them winning 52-13. It was a total team effort. Wednesday the team welcomes EIL rival Dana Hall at 4:00 pm in gym A.

Boys Basketball

The Beaver Boys’ Basketball team went 1-1 this past week. On Friday, Jan. 18, Beaver lost to Class B rival Brooks by a score of 70-62. Beaver was able to bounce back on Saturday and upset Class AA power Worcester Academy 71-69. Junior Jeff Spellman led a balanced  attack with 21 points.  This week, the boys will host Portsmouth Abbey on Wednesday and then travel to Nobles on Saturday.

Girls Ice Hockey

The Girl’s Varsity Hockey team came back from Winter Break with a tough loss to Dana Hall. Hannah Goldstein anchored the team in goal with a number of big saves. The team’s only goal of the game came from Maya Blair who received a great break out pass from Grace Brescia and took it the length of the ice. The girls take on Winsor this Wednesday in a rematch from the first half of the season.

Squash

The Squash team had no matches this past week. This Thursday, the team travels to Middlesex and looks forward to a competitive match.

Wrestling

The wrestling team took on Concord Academy this past week and lost. On Saturday the team went to Sandwich for the Cape Cod Invitational and placed 5th as a team while placing a few wrestlers at the tournament. Placers included Andrew Cannistraro at 113 (3rd place), Dan McDonald 3rd place at 126, Tyler Kavoogian 3rd place at 132, and Tyler Myrick 3rd place at 145. Josh Berland was the star on Saturday, placing 1st at 138 and taking home the Outstanding Wrestler Award for the tournament. Beaver has a match this Wednesday against BB&N and Thayer Academy and then will take on Middlesex on Friday.
