Five Student-Athletes Earn Athletic Accolades

Posted on May 17, 2012

As the spring athletics season winds down, Beaver’s Athletic Department is continuing to recognize outstanding student-athletes. This week David Jacquet ’12, Gabby Marks ’15, Electra Walker ’15, Catherine Wei ’15, and Sophie Goldstein ’18 were honored with Athletic Accolades.

David Jacquet ’12 – Boys Varsity Lacrosse
As a long pole defender, David serves the most important role on the field: limiting the number of scoring chances by the opposition. He has been rock solid in the defensive end of the field every game this season, tallying the most minutes played. He is always matched up against the other teams best “attackman” and does a great job of frustrating their style of play. David’s athleticism, hardwork, and blue color approach to the game has allowed him to find great success playing the most thankless position on the lacrosse field.

Gabby Marks ’15, Electra Walker ’15, Catherine Wei ’15 – Girls Varsity Tennis
The success of this year’s girls’ varsity tennis team is due in large part to leadership (captains – Sarah Jane Devins and Lily Brooks) and the three freshmen who have immediately had an impact on the team. Gabby Marks has led the way with an undefeated record at #1 singles, helping to set the tone at every match. She has only lost a total of eleven games all season. Although she has been away from tennis for almost two years, Electra Walker has teamed up nicely with senior captain Lily Brooks to make one of the strongest double teams ever to play at Beaver. Last but certainly not least, Catherine Wei has been a steady, go-to player all year. Whether she is playing doubles or singles, she has consistently emerged victorious, and has yet to lose a set.

Sophie Goldstein ’18 – MS Girls Lacrosse
Sophie Goldstein has shown constant hustle in practice and in games, reliability anywhere on the field and an outstanding positive attitude. She is always giving 100% while at the same time looking to improve. Sophie has contributed many goals and assists this season while also being a positive influence on her teammates.
