Baseball
The team was paced offensively by freshmen Henry Hirshland and Jamie Kennedy and the pitching staff was anchored by Kennedy and fellow freshman Jordan Scurry, but it was not enough as The Beaver nine fell to 1-7 in the Eastern Independent League (2-8 overall). The boys dropped contests at Berwick and Lexington Christian Academy during the week before falling to cross-town challenger Brimmer and May at home on Saturday. The baseball team will wrap up their season this week with Senior Day on Tuesday when they host Pingree before traveling to Landmark on Thursday.
Softball
This past week, the varsity softball team played Lexington Christian Academy and Bancroft. The girls played well, but eventually lost both games. The competition against LCA was back and forth, with each team scoring run for run all the way into the 5th inning. Although Beaver started strong, the team fell short in the end, falling 20-11. On Friday, the girls lost their second game of the week to a solid Bancroft team. The team will wrap up their season this week with an away game against Newton Country Day and the EIL tourney on Saturday.
Boys Lacrosse
The Beaver boys lacrosse team took on the Bulldogs from Bancroft this past week and came away with a 13-3 win. The team’s record now stands at 6-3 heading into a busy last week of regular season competition. This week, the boys will travel south to take on the Portsmouth Abbey Ravens and then north to lock horns with the the Landmark Vikings. They will then wrap up with a home contest on Saturday against Berwick. The team is looking to secure its second consecutive winning season and a spot in the small school New England Tourney.
Girls Lacrosse
This past week the varsity girls’ lacrosse team played against Berwick Academy and Gann Academy. Berwick secured a lead early on in their game. Despite an evenly played second half, the game ended in a 15-8 loss. Junior Captain Tess Anderson led the team with 4 goals. The team traveled to Gann Academy later in the week and took home a 16-2 win. Senior Captain Carly Furr led the team with 5 goals and 2 assists. Freshman Lina Sullivan had a breakout game, scoring her first varsity goal and adding 2 assists. Freshman Jaqui Gutman also scored her first varsity goal.
Boys Tennis
This week the Beaver Tennis team moved one step closer to a 4th consecutive EIL Championship. On Monday, the squad made quick work of Landmark at home. The team boasted straight set wins across the board for a 5-0 victory. On Friday, Beaver honored its Seniors in their final home match of the year against Pingree. Seniors TJ Moor, Kris Bronner, and Jay Rodman furthered their undefeated singles streaks in dominant fashion, while Senior Adam Goodman and Freshman Gabe Belkind teamed up to clinch the day’s victory at 2nd doubles in an exciting three-setter, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. Hunter Flint and Jon Marsh met up against a solid Pingree #1 doubles team and suffered their first EIL loss of the season. With that 4-1 victory, Beaver now moves to 6-0 in Conference play. Beaver is slotted for a second meeting with Pingree next Wednesday. The team will also go head to head with undefeated Concord Academy next Thursday.
Girls Tennis
Three Freshmen (Gabby Marks, Catherine Wei and Electra Walker) continued their individual undefeated streaks to help raise the team’s overall record to an unprecedented 10-0 last week. Wins included a 4-1 victory over a very strong Winsor team on Monday, and a hard fought, 3-2 win against Berwick on Friday. Overall, the team has showed continued improvement over the course of the season, and is playing some of their best tennis heading into their next match against another undefeated team in Newton Country Day, on Monday. This match will determine who wins the EIL title for the 2012 season. GO BEAVER!!!
Ultimate Frisbee
The Beaver Ultimate team continues to show progress as the end of the season approaches. This past week, the team suffered a tough loss to a good Concord Academy team on a sloppy, rainy day. Beaver, along with the rain, gave Concord all they could handle. Coach Lamar is pleased to see the players’ disc handling, cuts, and team chemistry have all dramatically improved since the beginning of the season. Beaver hopes to continue their progression and muscle out a win against a formidable opponent in Nobles next Tuesday.
