Sophomore Earns Bronze Medal at World Synchronized Skating Competition

Posted on May 5, 2011

Lauren Lapuck ’13 traveled to Finland in early April to compete in the 2011 World Synchronized Skating Championships as part of the Haydenettes synchronized skating team. She returned to Beaver with a bronze medal in hand as the Haydenettes captured their second consecutive third place finish.

To earn the designation as the USA 1 team at the world competition, they first had to earn their 19th U.S. title at the national competition in March. (Fun fact: That’s more national championships than the Boston Celtics.)

At the age of four, Lauren was inspired to take up the sport by watching her older sister skate. After a lot of hard work and practice, two years ago Lauren earned a spot on the prestigious Haydenettes as the youngest member of a team that now ranges in age from 16 (Lauren’s age) to 27. She also gets to skate with her sister who is a member of the team.

Lauren manages to successfully balance her Beaver schoolwork with 6-day-a-week skating practices – some as early as 5:00 a.m.

“The Beaver athletic community is always proud of those who accomplish great things, whether within the Beaver athletic program or outside,” said Athletic Director Sherry Levin. “Lauren’s achievements at the national and international level are a result of hard work, dedication and commitment. We are proud of all her success.”
