William Chrysanthos ’99 has been named this year’s Eli Segal Fellow by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the federal agency that oversees the government’s volunteer programs such as AmeriCorps, Senior Corps and Learn and Serve America.

A Tufts graduate and a Medford native, Will joined AmeriCorps as a teen and continued as a volunteer member through college. He was assistant director of Breakthrough Cambridge and taught for Teach for America for two years (2003-05) in St. Louis. In 2006 he returned to AmeriCorps and since then has coordinated community redevelopment and rebuilding efforts on the Gulf Coast following Hurricane Katrina and the BP oil spill.

As the Eli Segal Fellow, Will will be based in Washington for the next year. His new role tasks him with developing strategies and programs to further President Obama’s United We Serve initiative.
