As the winter athletic season winds down, another group of Athletic Accolades has been announced. Ibbie Yardley ’10 (girls’ varsity basketball), Neddy Beckwith ’11 (JV squash), and Tyler Myrick ’13 (wrestling) were recognized at an all-school meeting for their success on and off the courts and mats.

“Ibbie is one of our toughest competitors,” says Coach Sherry Levin. “She currently is second on the team in scoring with 10.4 points-per-game, third in rebounding with 6.1 per game, and leads the team in assists with 6 assists per game. In tough moments Ibbie is always one to ask for the ball in her hands. One of our captains, Ibbie has helped lead us to an 11-4 record, second in the EIL.”

Neddy Beckwich is deserving of an Athletic Accolade for his consistent and tough performances this season on the squash team. According to the assistant coach Dave Rennigner, “Neddy’s recent match vs. Dexter was the toughest one I’ve ever seen him play, and he was playing at the number three spot on the ladder after playing at five for most of our matches. After splitting the first four games, he and his opponent traded points for most of the fifth game. Neddy had two match points at 10-8 and 10-9 in that game. I can say from experience that having a chance to close out a match slip away is extremely difficult to mentally and physically overcome, but he fought to a 12-10 win.”

“Tyler Myrick had a fantastic tourney this past weekend at the New England Invitational,” says assistant coach Steve Schechter. “While he was seeded eighth for the NEI, he placed fifth in a VERY tough weight class. He came close to knocking off the number two seed (last year’s champion) and was dominant against several older and more experienced wrestlers. In addition, Tyler has won six out of his last seven matches. He is just a ninth grader, but he is wrestling with maturity. He has been working very hard in training, and it is really starting to show.”
