What is life like as a Beaver student? We interviewed several students across all grades—from middle school to senior year—to get a peek into the Beaver student experience. Below you’ll hear from Milly Hedgepeth ’31—a rising 8th grader. Milly shared her experience in Science 7—including a trip to Harvard Medical School and an infographic project on the cardiovascular system—and what she sees as some of the best bites on campus.
You just finished your 7th grade year! What was it like?
7th grade was a wonderful experience for me. I got to meet lots of new people because my grade grew by about 30 kids. In all of my classes I met all the new teachers which taught me lots of new things. 7th grade was a completely new world than 6th grade and it gave me plenty of new experiences.
What’s a project you worked on that you really liked and why?
I liked Science 7 because it taught me all about the cardiovascular system, which I was really interested to learn about. We did a lot of projects throughout the year. The cardiovascular infographic project was definitely my favorite. I put together an online graphic to showcase all my knowledge about the cardiovascular system.
Tell me about a teacher you really enjoyed. How did they help you grow as a student?
Ms. Winston was one of my favorite teachers. She taught Visual Arts. Ms. Winston brought a fun and kind presence into art class. She made doing art enjoyable for everyone.
My favorite class was Science 7 with Ms. Koch. We went on a field trip to Harvard Medical School. I learned how to intubate someone and was able to practice. It was my favorite class because of all the cool details we learned.

What are you most excited about in the upcoming year?
I’m most excited about meeting new kids coming into 8th grade classes. I’m also excited to meet my new advisor and see who will be in my advisory group. I love advisory because it’s a free space to talk and have a break in between my classes.
