What is life like as a Beaver student? We interviewed several students across all grades—from middle school to senior year—to get a peek into the Beaver student experience. Below you’ll hear from Jack Ledley ’32—a rising 8th grader. Jack details how sports helped him find community, a teacher that made an impact, and what he’s looking forward to during his last year in Middle School.
Can you share what it’s like making friends at Beaver?
From the very start of the year, sports were a big part of how I made friends. They also bring together grades since most classes only happen with students from the same grade. Beaver Middle School is big enough for everyone to find their people but small enough that most people know everyone in their grade.
What’s a project you worked on that you really liked and why?
I really enjoyed the science design challenge [in Science 7] where we had to create digestive system themed games. My team created a card game based on the popular game Magic The Gathering. I really liked how this project involved being creative but also productive and more serious skills like design and research.
I had a great time in seventh grade. Even though it was my first year, I found myself quickly becoming an important part of the community. The teachers, students, and faculty are amazing.

Tell me about a teacher you really enjoyed.
Mr. Winglass, the 7th-grade English teacher, was one of my favorite teachers because of his humor and his ability to make learning fun. He definitely helped me improve as a student throughout the year.
