Hello, Middle School Students and Families! Here is a recap of today’s Middle School Meeting.

Lucy Parsons ’32 and Finley Rice ’32 ran today’s meeting. You can check out the slides from this week’s meeting here.

The BVR Student

Beia Rubin ’31 and Malcolm Richkus ’31 presented Takes Only What They Need.

When you are taking something, you should only take what you need so that you leave some for others to enjoy too. You can always grab more. Sometimes there are quite a few people, and it’s better for everyone to get less than a couple people to get a lot and some people to not get any.

Announcements

🌟 Sadie Wylie ’26 announced a math competition happening Thursday, April 30, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., run by Upper School students. Students can compete solo or with a partner, and can sign up with their math teacher. Middle School students who participate will miss afternoon activities.

Ayan Toussaint ’30 and Kieran Morrissey-Dhekne ’30 recapped the Hiatt Leadership Institute that took place last week. “We explored the concept of dehumanization and learned how dehumanizing actions can show up in our relationships with others, as part of a group, or at the institutional or government level. We also identified the many ways we, as leaders, can bring healing, light, and humanity to everyone around us as a first step to make change at a larger scale.”

The next Hiatt Institute will take place on Monday, April 27. Everyone is invited!

☀️ Ms. Garayúa reminded everyone about the May 16 deadline to apply for the Hiatt Summer Fellowship program. Students are encouraged to schedule a meeting with Garayúa at the Hiatt Center to learn more.

🪩 Brooklyn Nieves Farrell ’32 and Bradley Forrester ’32, our 6th Grade Student Council Representatives, reminded everyone about the dance happening this Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Students will arrive and put their phones away in the cabinet. Pizza will be served in the Dining Room, and ice cream sundaes will be served later in the evening. Students are encouraged to dress up.

🎉 We are having a spirit week the rest of this week:

  • Wednesday: USA day
  • Thursday: 6th and 7th graders wear gray, 8th graders were blue
  • Friday: comfy day

🦫 L’mar Hibbert ’30, Student Council President, announced that, for the first time, Middle School teams will play games at BVR’s SpringFest next Friday, April 24. Boys and Girls Lacrosse have games on Upper Field at 3 p.m., and all students will attend. There will also be a food truck with pizza and dessert.

We are also dressing in spirit next week, leading up to SpringFest!

  • Tuesday: Jersey day
  • Wednesday: Dress Like a Teacher
  • Thursday: Beach day
  • Friday: Wear all white

🦫 Caroline Mitchell ’30, Student Council Vice President, encouraged all Middle School students to submit a name for the BVR mascot. Our beaver has never been named before, and all members of the community are invited to suggest names. Submissions are due by the end of the day today! Students will then vote on the finalists, and the official name will be announced on SpringFest.

🎵 Caroline Mitchell ’30 and Kieran Morrissey-Dhekne ’30 encouraged students to consider performing at 8th Grade Promotion, sharing that they both performed at last year’s event. Students may choose to perform a solo as the audience enters Bradley Hall or participate in a larger ensemble during the ceremony. Rehearsals will take place during the school day, and an email will be sent with sign-up information.
