MS Minutes: 02.17.26

Posted on February 18, 2026

Hello, Middle School Students and Families! Here is a recap of today’s Middle School Meeting.

Kieran Morrissey-Dhenke ’30 and Alessandro Traverso ’30 ran today’s meeting. You can check out the slides from this week’s meeting here.

The BVR Student

Dillon Morris ’30 and Jake Exantus ’30 presented Is Disciplined with Technology.

Today, we will talk about Is Disciplined with Technology. I chose this because in our classes, we use our time productively and stay on task. I make sure I don’t have too many tabs open. I also make sure I close distracting tabs. And I keep my computer closed when the teacher is talking. At home, after doing homework, I close my laptop, take a break, and start getting ready for the next day. Being disciplined with technology is important because you can focus more easily.

Announcements

☀️ Ms. Garayúa and Ms. Latour announced the Hiatt Summer Fellowship program. Through the fellowship, middle school students receive funding to participate in a summer leadership program of their choice. In addition, the fellowship offers funding for students who volunteer with one of our partner non-profit organizations or an organization of their choice. Students are encouraged to schedule a meeting with Ms. Garayúa in the Hiatt Center to learn more.

💫 The next Hiatt Leadership Institute, Infinite Possibilities, is happening Monday, February 23, at 245 (the house). Students will explore the connection between starlight and our own actions here on earth. Students will discuss resilience, courage, and the importance of small actions that nurture hope, even when situations or environments are difficult.

❤️ All advisories decorated classroom doors last week for Valentine’s Day. Student Council members, L’mar Hibbert ’30 and Caroline Mitchell ’30, announced the winners:

  • 3rd place: Ms. Klammer and Ms. Smith’s advisory
  • 2nd place: Ms. Webster’s advisory
  • 1st place: Ms. Winston’s advisory

🌏 Today, during R-TIME, 6th-grade students heard from two guest speakers from the Wampanoag and Nipmuc tribes. They shared a traditional creation story, taught 6th graders about the idea of cultural propriety (what it means to respect and honor cultures), and then students participated in a traditional dance. This was a special opportunity to learn from Indigenous peoples whose communities have lived on this land for thousands of years and who continue to keep their traditions alive today.

🏫 Parent/Caregiver & Teacher Conferences are the next two Fridays; February 20 and 27. There is no school for students on these days, though students are encouraged to attend their conferences.

Student Reminders

We watched a short, funny video about lunch: eating in the Dining Hall, cleaning up after yourself, and not taking food out of the Dining Hall.

We reminded students to clean up trash in the Gym as they leave meeting.

Students were also reminded to let me know if they want to run a MS Meeting.
