Hello, Middle School Students and Families! Here is a recap of today’s Middle School Meeting.

Beau Rives ’31 and Cat Townsend ’31 ran today’s meeting. You can check out the slides from this week’s meeting here.

The BVR Student

Sam Springer ’31 and Sam Okyere ’31 presented Comes to class on time, with necessary materials, and a ready to learn attitude.

“We chose this because it represents who we are as a BVR Student. We both try our best to reset our systems before every class to help be ready to learn”.

Sam O said, “I put the folder I am going to use in front of all the other folders, sort of sending a signal to my brain telling it to prepare for that specific class.”

Sam S said, “I take a deep breath before every class to make sure I imprint what I learned in my last class, and clear it for the next class. I get to class on time by not chit-chatting with friends in the hallways.”

Sam O said, “I go a few minutes earlier than my peers, so I am not distracted by them.”

Announcements

🪐 Eva Bachman ’31 recapped yesterday’s fourth MS Hiatt Leadership Institute. She spoke for Sophie Herbstman ’30, who was on a field trip this morning.

“It was called Orbiting Across Differences, and we learned that effective leaders take care of themselves, but also of others. They know that each person’s reality is different and that things like their identity can impact how they experience different spaces. Great leaders have a sharp eye to notice others who may not feel seen or affirmed, and they do something about it. They want to make sure everyone, including themselves, thrives and not merely survives. A highlight was I learned more about how we as leaders can try to include people, and how different spaces can be changed to accommodate different people’s needs.”

🌎 Ms. Garayúa discussed the Social Justice Retreat coming up in January and introduced Olivia Smith ’30. As an attendee of two past Retreats, Olivia spoke about what Social Justice means to her and encouraged others to attend. She also talked about her efforts to improve access to menstrual products for a school in Kenya. Anyone interested in joining Olivia in her efforts to improve access to menstrual products can reach out to the Hiatt Center.

🫙 L’mar Hibbert ’30, Student Council President, announced this month’s candy jar winner: Alice Gametchu-Walker ’30.
