Dear Beaver Community,
The school year is underway!
Students new and old are learning their schedules, meeting new friends, jumping into their classes and clubs and sports. They are energized by the spirit of community and connection that is the hallmark of a Beaver education. And, further, they are inspired by the almost innumerable Hiatt summer internships, SDPs, R&D collaborations, school trips, and individual class projects you have made possible.
There is no limit to what our students can imagine and then create, because they have so many examples to draw from. They can build instruments, work on organic farms, create chapters for graphic novels, study seed production in Africa, analyze microplastics on our beaches, learn a new cooking technique, help develop business plans for local companies, bring solar power to schools in Syria, and so much more. As you can see, all these projects have real-world implications and support the deep commitment Beaver students have to making a difference, locally and globally.
As many of you know, I have had a parent’s-eye-view of Beaver for the past four years, when my son was a student in the Upper School. In his time, gifts like yours supported him in diving into music theory, building a card game to help teach students about malware and computer viruses, creating an original escape room for the Beaver faculty and staff, writing and filming a pirate movie, and creating songs and skits for theater productions. Like all our students, he grew in confidence and creativity throughout his time because his eagerness to pursue new projects was always met with an enthusiastic “yes!” from the faculty and staff. Meeting students where they are, understanding their interests, and helping them turn their visions into reality–that is the heart of what our faculty and staff do every day. It simply would not be possible without your generosity.
In the 2025 Impact Report, you will see that our students learn literally everywhere they go, and that they are already making a difference in the world, from community service to science labs to the arts to political engagement.
This is the most joyful learning of all–when what we accomplish in the classroom translates into the world outside our walls on Hammond Street. Keep an eye on these young superstars–you will read about them in the future too! We are all so proud of what they are able to do, and I hope you are proud of the part you have played in opening so many doors for them.
Please enjoy these articles, and know that everyone at Beaver is so grateful for your support and commitment to this unique and remarkable school.
