Here are some highlights from this past week—December 16 through December 20—in the Upper School.

In Advisory on Monday, students had free time to catch up on work and touch base with their advisors before winter break. Students in grades 10 and 11 received a reminder about applications for the Cohn Grant, which are due by the end of the day on Friday, December 20. Students in Philosophy heard from guest speaker Meira Levinson P’21 on Wednesday. Levinson spoke to students about the philosophy behind justice and discipline, asking students to consider what ethical principles ought to be factored in when making disciplinary decisions.

At an Upper School meeting, Beaver Athletics announced awards from the fall season. Awards included EIL All League, All NEPSAC, and honorable mentions.

The meeting also featured announcements from Mr. Adjout and Ms. Brown about the BVR Accelerator, Jules Todd ’26 about the origins and traditions of Kwanzaa, and Mr. Egwuatu about HackBac.

Students in Entrepreneurship with a Purpose pitched ideas on how Beaver could expand the nature of schooling to a panel of Beaver experts. Pitches included an expansion of the parking lot, a new multipurpose athletics center, and a rooftop garden.

Seeing students so passionate about what makes Beaver great and what could make us even better is inspiring. A panel of administrators saw four unique and carefully crafted presentations, each providing an example of co-creating with students to help inform the future of the school!

Student Council and R&D Ambassadors hosted a gathering on the D-Level on Friday to celebrate the final day of school before winter break. Students decorated ornaments, creating candles, enjoyed hot chocolate, and even sang a little karaoke.

Classes will resume on January 7 for all students. Have a wonderful winter break, Beaver!
