Here are some highlights from this past week—November 18 through November 22—in the Upper School.
Monday was the first day of the winter term. Students attended Advisory to check-in about adjusting to their new schedules.
Three new clubs started on Tuesday. Philosophy Club, led by Bella Bruno ’25, First Generation Club, led by Zarin Gasasu ’26 and Arlinda Leka ’26, and Robotics, led by Nate Howard ’28 and William Mortimer ’28. Students are encouraged to check out these new offerings even if they are new to the topics. To hear more about the process of starting a new club at Beaver, click here.
During an Upper School meeting on Wednesday, students heard from Cohn Grant Advisors Ms. Ching and Mr. Eaton. The two discussed the history and philosophy of the grant as well as examples of what past recipients accomplished. Applications for the 2025 grant will be open to sophomores and juniors from December 6 to December 20.
Student council kicked off Thursday with a meeting at Beaver’s new space, 245 Woodland. The group spent time planning and organizing upcoming Beaver events, including the 2nd Annual BVR Bowl that occurred later that day.
The rainy weather of Thursday afternoon served as the backdrop for BVR Bowl, a juniors vs. seniors flag football game created last year. The game–which features female-identifying students competing on behalf of their grades–is a moment for Upper School students to come together and root on their peers. Seniors won the game with a very close 20-19 score.
On Friday, members of the Black Student Union hosted a potluck event at 245 Woodland. The event served as a moment for BSU members to connect and unwind as the winter term begins. Students were encouraged to bring in dishes to share and arrive ready to eat!
