Posted on November 19, 2024

Hello, Middle School Students and Families! Below is this week’s MS Meeting recap.

Eden Fissler Kidder ’29 and Patrick Shea ’29 ran today’s meeting. You can check out the slides from this week’s meeting here.

THE BVR STUDENT

Alexandra Natan ’29 presented: Takes time to consider the thoughts and feelings of others

I believe this is an important skill because if you are in an argument with a friend or peer, taking time to consider the thoughts and feelings of them will help you to understand their side. This way you can solve a problem in a way that considers everyone. This is foundational to a good friendship and being a good student.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Maddie Stoesser ’29 and Noa Shatz-Cauley ’29 shared a recap of yesterday’s Hiatt Institute Workshop: Conflict as Opportunity.

Students learned what bees can teach us about conflict resolution and decision-making when there is disagreement in the hive. Students also learned about the different stages of conflict, how our thoughts and emotions impact how we choose to act to solve the conflict, and why it’s important to take a step back and think about how to solve issues without judging others or letting strong emotions get the best of us.

Lost and Found items have been labeled and added to this slideshow. Students and families can email Amber Kuntzberg (akuntzberg@bcdschool.org) to claim lost items. Please note the item code in the email.

The Fall Music Exhibit is on Thursday, November 21. All Middle School students stay after school. Dinner is provided at 3:45 p.m. Students need to be in their rehearsal space ready to play by 4:45 p.m. The exhibit starts at 6:00 p.m. and lasts less than an hour. There will be sweet treats at the end.

We talked about The BVR Way: Fire Alarm Procedures.

This Friday, November 22, is an early dismissal for Thanksgiving Break. School ends at 2:25 p.m., and there are no afternoon activities. All buses will depart at 2:45 p.m. Classes will resume on Monday, December 2.

Ms. Smith shared a clip from the movie Cars to kick off the Learning Speedway. The Learning Speedway is a visual Ms. Smith uses to highlight the importance of partnership throughout the learning experience as well as designated time for students to receive feedback from all of their teachers. BVR Student Feedback will be shared by email next week. After Thanksgiving break, students will complete the BVR Student Reflection with their advisors using this feedback. The student reflection will be shared with families.
