Meet Beaver Student Henry Davidson ’26

Posted on July 1, 2023

What is life like as a Beaver student? We interviewed several students across all grades—from middle school to senior year—to get a peek into the Beaver student experience. Below you’ll hear from Henry Davidson—a rising Beaver sophmore. Tommy shares his thoughts on freshman year, his love of photography, and more!

What does your upcoming year look like?
My upcoming year consists of some required classes and many optional classes that build on what classes I enjoyed the most freshman year. I am building my love for photography by taking a more advanced photography class, and I am also diving into physical arts by taking “Intro to 3D Arts” and maybe even ceramics. I get to take honors chem and bio along with the math class I am placed into.

The first day of 9th grade can be intimidating. What were some things you were nervous about? Did they come true and/or how did you overcome them?
The first day was super intimidating to me as a new 9th grader, but as the day came I realized two things:

One— people are nice. People want to meet you just as you want to make new friends, even the kids who have been here since 6th grade. This brings me to my second point— the old kids want to meet the new kids. Don’t be intimidated because someone was in middle school, talk to them, get to know them and maybe even ask if they can introduce you to their middle school friends.

How did the community make you feel on your first day at Beaver? How was it making friends?
The Beaver teachers and staff were super welcoming on the first day of school and continued to be throughout the year. The kids were also surprisingly welcoming to me and the other new kids. My main advice would be to put yourself out there and remember that everyone is a little awkward on the first day. Making friends can seem super intimidating but you will realize as long as you put yourself out there and meet new people, you will gravitate to the people you like the most.

What did you like about freshman year?

The Beaver curriculum allows for plenty of time to meet new people and make new friends. This was super important to me because I found people that I really liked and had fun around.

What’s a project you enjoyed working on?
My favorite project from freshman year was most definitely the circuits project that we did in Honors Physics. The project consisted of doing the math involved with creating a “non-dangerous” circuit and then putting LEDs in a structure that tells a part of your identity.

What’s your favorite Beaver lunch?
Taco day by far is my favorite lunch at Beaver. Nevertheless, all of the lunches are good if not very good.
