Here is a short wrap-up from this past week—January 23 through January 27 —in the Upper School.

At an Upper School Meeting on Monday, several announcements were made about upcoming events. Student leaders representing Dam Jam promoted the event, which will take place next Friday, February 3. For students interested in connecting with RD ambassadors and staff about research sources, design, and feedback, weekly RD office hours are available on Wednesdays from 2:55-3:20.

An Upper School English class took a trip to Louisa May Alcott’s Orchard House to see the house where Little Women takes place. Students were thrilled to take a trip back into the past and learn more about how life was once lived.

On Tuesday, the Brown University Jabberwocks arrived at Beaver for a day of performances and master classes. On stage, the Jabberwocks sang popular a cappella arrangements and introduced themselves to students. In master classes with Select Singers and B Class, the group ran vocal exercises and gave feedback on the repertoire students have been working on.

On Thursday, there were no classes due to virtual guardian teacher conferences.

Seriously Funny debuted to a lot of laughter on Thursday. The show, which was devised entirely by the ensemble, was a compilation of whacky skits designed to make the audience laugh. You can read more about the show here.

The Media Literacy Class participated in the MS Social Justice Retreat on Friday. Students shared their research and findings around responsible social media usage on specific platforms. Through comparing posts, detailing privacy guidelines, and sparking dialogues, the class was able to better prepare Middle School students for issues they may encounter online.
