Upper School Weekly Wrap-Up 01.13.23

Here is a short wrap-up from this past week—January 9 through January 13 —in the Upper School.

On Monday, instructors from the American Repertory Theater visited campus for a day of master classes. Students in the Costume & Fashion Design Studio and the Design & Tech Theater Studio classes learned the fundamentals of puppetry and created puppets of their own. Some students even experimented with a massive puppet from A.R.T.’s production of Life of Pi, which students are invited to see on Sunday. Read more about the experience here.

As 9th grade held a class meeting, 10th, 11th, and 12th graders headed to Advisory. Seniors had a chance to review the Senior Experience presentation as well as preview internship opportunities at Beaver. Other grades took Advisory as a moment to check in ahead of conferences next week.

The first Club Block of the new year took place on Tuesday, giving students a chance to reconnect with their clubs and set goals for the upcoming months. Opt-In Spaces were also provided on Tuesday, allowing students to find spaces best suited to their current needs.

Various announcements were made at the Upper School Meeting on Wednesday. Varsity Swimming shared the highlights of their record-breaking season, representatives from the R+D Center explained how to check out library books, and Health and Wellness staff members promoted Wellness, Waffles, Wednesday.

At lunch, a waffle bar was available as dessert to all students. Wellness, Waffles, Wednesday reintroduces various Health and Wellness staff members to students as a reminder of the resources available to them on campus.

Wednesday evening, Beaver’s girls varsity hockey competed in Frozen Fenway, a game under the lights of Fenway Park. The team defeated Winsor 5-1 and senior Audrey Youngen even scored a hat trick!
