MS Minutes: 09.06.22

Posted on September 7, 2022

Ms. Smith and I ran today’s meeting, but usually, a student leads. I asked any MS student who was interested in running a meeting to let us know! You can check out the slides from this week’s meeting here.

BVR STUDENT HIGHLIGHT

Ms. Smith and I welcomed everyone to the first MS Meeting of the 2022-2023 school year. We spoke about what happens in MS Meeting (announcements, celebration of students’ lives, presentations by teachers and students) and what we expect from them as an audience (to listen and participate appropriately).

We also introduced the BVR Student, which we will talk about each week in MS Meeting and advisory.

All the Middle School faculty introduced themselves, including what they do at Beaver and their favorite spot on campus. Click here to see pictures of the MS Faculty.

STUDENT REMINDERS

The music section leaders had a meeting today to get ready for the first day of music class—which is tomorrow!

We talked about how phones, chatting, and messaging are often a distraction for students. Our tech policy is:

  • No chatting, messaging, or texting in class.
  • Phones can be used before school or after school and in class with explicit teacher instruction.
  • Phones need to be kept in bags (out of sight) on silent with no vibration.

On-campus before or after school

Students who arrive on campus before 7:55 a.m. (8:55 a.m. on Mondays) can have breakfast in the Dining Hall. Students on campus after 4 p.m. must be in room 205 doing schoolwork.

We spoke about lunch at Beaver including locations where Middle School students eat, how we are excited that we are no longer using disposable plates, cups, and cutlery, and shared a link to the menu.

The Middle School is offering a Speech and Debate group run by Lumos that all Middle School students can attend. Meetings will take place here at Beaver from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Students must email Coach Kuntz at akuntz@bcdschool.org before Friday if they are interested in participating.

And that’s a wrap on first day announcements. Looking forward to a great school year!
