Here is a short wrap-up from this past week—January 24–January 28—in the Upper School
On Monday, in Advisory, students participated in a division-wide game of Kahoot!. Student Council Executive Board Members Ian Travis ’23 and Corey Predella ’22 hosted the game.
During Tuesday’s Club Block, we talked with the Female Activists and Allies club about their mission. They shared how they had recently met with artist Angela Lorenz, whose work—driven by feminism—will be on display at Beaver from February 1 through February 18.
Wednesday there were no classes for Upper School students due to Parent/Caregiver-Teacher Conferences. (Ed note: It was so great to connect with so many of you!)
Thursday was Holocaust Remembrance Day and the Jewish Cultural Club leaders helped put together an advisory agenda to reflect on the day.
In addition, it was also Opening Night for the Upper School Winter Play, The Play of Delights. Using Ross Gay’s book of essays as the source material and inspiration, this student-devised play is a mix of highly theatrical, physical theater scenes (taken directly from the book) and original scenes that mix genres and structure. Everything is connected by the theme of delight—and seeking and finding delight in unusual places.
- Please note: Due to the weather, Saturday’s performance of “The Play of Delights” is canceled.
The Middle School Social Justice Retreat is today, and several Upper School students (and Social Justice Retreat alums!) are hosting workshops. Toby Otting ‘23, Chawanzi Muwina ‘23, Alice Molinsky ’23, and Rachel Altman ’23 (pictured above) shared their knowledge about environmental justice and how MS students can get involved in local activism. In addition, Anna Levine ‘22—a Beaver Environmental Action Team (BEAT) club leader—led a morning workshop on the effects of fast fashion, how to make informed choices, and the benefits of thrifting—as well as an afternoon design project to help students redesign thrift store finds.
