This past weekend, 11 Beaver students along with advisors, Sumaya Ibourk and Gabriela Morillo traveled to Brown University for the 19th Annual Model UN Conference.
The 11 students who attended: Pablo Fiori ’16, Jessica Ainooson ’16, Gavin Zaentz ’16, Ben Lehv ’18, Aidan Geary ’18, Jerome Edwards ’17, Zack Taylor ’18, Ryan McClennen ’18, Drew Siegal ’18, Cam Ventura ’19, and Seamus Buckley ’19.
Our students negotiated and debated with other students from national as well as international schools. They worked on various topics such as the Syrian Refugee crisis in Lebanon, raising of enrollment of girls in schools in Africa, and the ongoing conflict in Lybia. Students also participated in Specialized as well as Historical committees: Lebanese Parliament, Cabinet of Uganda and Municipal Chamber of Rio de Janeiro.
Students spent an intense three days debating, negotiating, collaborating, writing papers, and writing resolutions. They worked on their speaking as well as on their writing skills.
Three Beaver students participated in very competitive and dynamic crisis committees: Thirty Years’ War 1618-1648 and the Struggles in Hispaniola in 1838.
Four of our delegates won individual awards:
- Aidan Geary ’18 won a Verbal Commendation in the Special Political and Decolonization Committee
- Jessica Ainooson ’16 won a Commendation in the specialized committee of Municipal Chamber of Rio de Janeiro
- Cam Ventura ’19 won Outstanding Delegate award in the specialized committee The Lebanese Parliament
- Ryan McClennen ’18 won an Outstanding Delegate Award in the Crisis Committee Thirty Years’ War
