Girls’ Varsity Tennis
This week the Girls’ Varsity Tennis Team celebrated Senior Week with their last two home matches. Early in the week (Monday), the team organized an all senior line-up against Gann Academy, where they won 4-1. The team then celebrated Senior Day for their last home match with a decisive win against Worcester Academy (5-0). Both of these matches were non-league opponents which helped the team prepare for its big league match against Winsor, the only other undefeated team. To begin the biggest match of the year, co-captain Gabby Marks and freshman phenom Michaela Markwart both had quick matches to give the team an early 2-0 lead. However, #3 singles had split sets, and the first doubles team had just lost the first set in a tie-breaker, so the match was nowhere near over when the second doubles team took the court. Led by their other co-captain, Catherine Wei, the number two doubles team of Wei and Rachel Feldman never let their coach doubt the victory by winning in straight sets (6-3, 6-4). By the end of the day, Hayley Zukerberg ’16 (#3 singles) gutted out the third set and won 6-2; the number one doubles team of Electra Walker ’15 and Lauren Morgart ’18 got back on track and won the next two sets 6-2, 6-2, and the team made a strong statement with its decisive 5-0 victory over Winsor. As the team heads into the final week, they hope to earn two more league wins against perennial powerhouse Newton (4-2) and Pingree.
Boys’ Varsity Tennis
This past week was a busy one for Beaver Boys’ Tennis. Away on Monday, Beaver secured a win against Landmark, 3-2. William French ’17 won the deciding match at 2nd singles, defeating his opponent in a third set tiebreaker with the team match tied at 2-2. On Wednesday, Beaver hosted undefeated Concord Academy. Beaver played its best tennis of the season, impressively netting 2 wins against Concord in a 3-2 team loss. On Friday, Beaver took on the former Class A squad from Dexter Academy who only just returned to Class C this season. Against a squad of future D1 and D3 tennis players, Beaver held its own set to set, getting a win at 2nd Doubles, but in the end fell 1-4.
This week Beaver hosts Pingree in an end-of-season rubber match. Pingree edged the boys 3-2 on their home courts. The team hopes to return the favor and increase its chances at a NEPSAC bid. Join us Thursday at Mt. Ida College for the thrilling conclusion to our rivalry.
Girls’ JV Tennis
Girls’ JV Tennis spent the week supporting the Varsity Team and celebrating senior week. On Monday JV seniors Micaela Furman and Julia Schwartz played doubles in the Varsity match against Gann. On Wednesday they celebrated the last home match for the seniors. This week will be the last two JV matches of the season against Newton Country Day on Monday and Pingree on Wednesday
Boys’ JV Tennis
Boys’ JV Tennis had no interscholastic matches this past week. The team focused on singles play, and started a double elimination tournament. This week is the last week of the season, and it ends with a home match against Pingree on Thursday.
Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse
The Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse team had a game on Monday at Bancroft, and they won 14 – 5. The scoring was highlighted by captain Jimmy Bell (2015) with 5 goals, Jabari Johnson ’17 with 3 goals and 2 assists, Chris Bucking ’18 with 1 goal and 5 assists, captain Nat Brown ’15 and Grady Newberg ’15 each had 2 goals and 1 assist, and Noah Zakarian ’17 had 2 goals as well. Dan MacDonald ’15 had another solid day in goal with 13 saves. The team is ready for its last week of the season when they host rival Landmark on Wednesday for the seniors’ last home game. The team will then travel to Concord on Friday and to Berwick on Saturday.
Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse
The Girls Varsity Lacrosse team traveled to Berwick on Wednesday and played at home on Friday against Southfield. The team lost against Berwick, 9-18. Justine Hatton ’16 and Sydney Brown ’17 led the team with points. On Friday, the team fought hard to tie Southfield 12-12. It was an overall team effort with five players contributing points. Christine Bourdeau ’17 scored a key goal when she tied up the game with minutes remaining. Goalkeeper Julia Gatewood ’18 kept Southfield’s offense at bay with critical saves.
Varsity Baseball
Beaver Country Day had a difficult week taking three losses as well as several losses of key players due to injuries. Beaver Varsity Baseball is in its last week of play in the season, finishing the LCA game Monday, at Landmark on Wednesday, and the EIL tournament on Saturday (times and locations to be announced).
Varsity Softball
Varsity Softball played two league games this past week. The girls went on the road to take on Lexington Christian Academy on Monday and Bancroft on Wednesday. The team lost both games. This week, the team will finish up the season with a home game on Monday vs. NCD and a home game on Tuesday vs. the Woodward School.
Ultimate Frisbee
Beaver Ultimate ensured its first winning season in five years this week. The Beaver Ultimate team solidified their winning season with a dominant 9-2 win over Pingree. The game was shortened due to time constraints, but that didn’t stop Beaver from putting in a strong performance. The team has two more games left in the season. Their goal now is to work hard, and hopefully finish the season with the best winning record for Beaver Ultimate in school history.
