Beaver receives Best Small Delegation award at Model UN Conference

This weekend, 12 Beaver students  attended the 14th Annual Boston Invitational Model United Conference, hosted by Boston University at the Marriott Copley in Boston.

The 12 students who attended: Sofia Cabral ’18 Aidan Geary ’18, Ryan McClennen ’18 Michael Schaff ’16, Evan Feldberg-Bannatyne ’16, Pablo Fiori ’16, Jessica Ainooson ’16, Julia Schwartz ’15, Marcia Zimmerman ’15, Henry Bailey ’15, Josh Roy ’15, and Dimitrius Keeler ’15.

Our delegates demonstrated excellent skills in public speaking, writing, negotiation and debate in their committees, which covered a wide range of topics both historic and current, including the Israeli Palestinian conflict, the Bosnian War, the Marshall Islands, and the role and responsibility of the media in reporting terrorism and conflict. Our students represented nations, media organizations, historic individuals, and NGOs, as well as a judge in the International Court of Justice. Seven Beaver delegates won individual awards:

  • Evan Feldberg-Bannatyne ‘16 won Best Position Paper in the Executive Cabinet of GoodLuck Jonathan, Nigeria
  • Jessica Ainooson ‘16 won a Verbal Commendation as a judge in the International Court of Justice
  • Marcia Zimmerman ‘15 won an Honorable Mention for her excellent work as Representative to the CIA in her Joint Crisis Committee; Interservice Intelligence, India, 1971
  • Pablo Fiori ‘16 was awarded Best Delegate for his strong performance as Minister of Defense in Thein Sein’s Cabinet, Myanmar
  • Henry Bailey ‘15 won Best Delegate in the highly competitive Security Council as the delegate from Nigeria
  • Josh Roy ‘15 won Best Delegate for his work defending Bengali freedom in his Joint Crisis Committee, Mukti Bahini 1971
  • Dimitrius Keeler ‘15, who represented the Minister of Foreign Affairs in his committee, the Indian National Congress, was named Best Delegate for his excellent work.

Not only did Beaver students win these individual awards, but the team received the coveted Best Small Delegation award. Beaver students were chosen from more than 1200 in attendance to receive this recognition.
