Girls’ Varisty Basketball

The Girls’ Varsity Basketball team had a two game EIL week again, and came away with two victories. Playing Winsor and Bancroft one time each this season the results were important. Beaver came out strong on the road at Winsor and won 43-28. Beaver hosted Bancroft and came away with a total team victory, 51-15. Next week they travel to Dana Hall on Wednesday, and host ISL school Middlesex on Saturday, January 25. Their record stands at 6-2.

Boys’ Varsity Basketball

The Beaver Boys’ Basketball team had a successful week going 3-0. On Wednesday, the team had a league victory over Berwick Academy. The team finished the week on a great note with victories over Class B powers Brooks School and Suffield Academy. Suffield Academy is the defending Class B champion.

Wrestling

This week the Beaver wrestling team had a pair of tri-meets against CHCH, PA, Concord Academy, and Marianapolis.  Senior captain Josh Berland continued his undefeated season in style with 3 pins and a technical fall (winning by a score of 15-0), keeping himself on pace to peak for the upcoming post-season. Also recording wins this week were freshmen Jacob Weil and Ben Snyder, as well as Dan McDonald and junior classmate Drew Cannistraro. Beaver’s small but focused team looks forward to the upcoming week, including matches against BB&N, Thayer, Middlesex, and their first tournament of the year in Cape Cod on Saturday. Keep supporting your boys in blue!

Squash

The Beaver Squash team played another Squashbusters team this past Monday. The match was lost 5-2, but Beaver won 6 of the 13 overall matches played. Each and every player has worked very hard this season, and it shows in their match play.

Clay Starr ’15 played a match against the Squashbusters #2 player that ended in Clay winning 3-2. Clay won the first two games 11-9, 11-9 and lost the 3rd and 4th games 10-12, 10-12. Clay battled through the final game despite being overly exhausted and ready to collapse. In the end, Clay walked away victorious with a well earned 12-10 win in the 5th game against a very tough opponent.

Gabe Belkind ’15 also played a tough 5 game match. Gabe lost the first two games but came back to win the 3rd and 4th games, only to be defeated 11-9 in the 5th game. Despite losing, Gabe performed very well on court. He has improved drastically in such a short amount of time this season.
