Parent Association Fall Recap

Posted on October 7, 2013

The 2013-2014 school year is off to a great start! Below you will find a few recaps from the Parent Association’s latest events, as well as information on how to get involved, and the presentation from the Parent Association Fall Dinner if you missed it! (The password is found in the October 2013 Parents Newsletter).

Fall Dinner Thank You — The Parent Association would like to thank everyone who attended the Fall Dinner on September 18, especially our dinner co-chairs Lynda Gordon and Suzanne Kaitz who made it all possible!  We enjoyed a wonderful presentation by Rob MacDonald, Jason Cummings, and Tiffany Marsh on The Language of Global Connections in which they highlighted the approach Beaver uses in addressing coding, modern languages, and civic engagement, and the ways in which those curriculum are interconnected. We invite you to watch the presentation here and check out photos from the event as well.

HarvestFest Thank You — Thank you to everyone who supported HarvestFest on September 28, especially Mara & Bob Goldstein for organizing the food truck!  The weather was beautiful, the turnout fantastic, and a great showing by Beaver’s athletic teams.  To see photos of all the excitement visit Beaver’s SmugMug account.

Last week was the first Parent Association Assembly: Beaver’s Advisory Program–All Beaver students participate in Advisory, in which 6-9 students meet regularly each week with a faculty member or Advisor. Advisors also serve as the first point of contact for their students’ parents. Jorge Valcarcel and Amy Wheeler, Middle & Upper School Directors, and Tara Paulauskas and Lesley Colognesi, Directors of Counseling Services & Academic Services spoke more about what happens in your student’s Advisory, differences between the Middle and Upper Schools, and how Beaver supports its students.

Parent Volunteers — There are a number of opportunities for parents to get involved or contribute to Beaver, including volunteering on committees, giving tours, assisting with events, etc. To indicate how you would like to contribute simply fill out this online form.
