Girls’ Varsity Tennis
Girls’ Varsity Tennis suffered its first loss of the season against a well balanced and competitive team from Concord Academy. Sophomore, Gabby Marks continued her dominance at the number one position, with a straight set victory over senior, EIL All-Star, Izzy Matoon. Junior, co-captain Mandy Gordon, and sophomore Catherine Wei broke their number one doubles partnership to play singles in this match. Both of them competed hard and gave it all they had, but fell in straight sets to their opponents. Senior, co-captain Joanna Pride and sophomore, Rachel Feldman paired up to play doubles for the first time. They played the longest match of the day, however, they lost 4-6 in the third set.
This week, the team will look to bounce back quickly and be ready to compete against two more, tough, EIL teams. The team will meet Portsmouth Abbey on Wednesday (home) and Dana Hall on Friday (away).
Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse
The Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse Program brought their season record to 3-2 with a dominant victory over Gann Academy on Tuesday afternoon. Before the game’s first whistle both teams met at midfield for a moment of silence in respect for those lost or injured during the horrible events of Monday afternoon’s Marathon attacks. As the game progressed Beaver’s offensive prowess, led by junior midfielder John Kalnins and junior attack-man Michael Gray (4 goals and an assist each) helped secure a 12-2 halftime lead. Senior Captain, Dom Smith pitched in with 2 goals and 3 assists as well. Once again, the Beaver defense performed well, limiting the Gann team to 3 goals on the day. Coach Anderson is very happy with the way his young “green horn” defensive unit has begun to gel.
The Beaver squad will face a very tough ISL opponent in Lawrence Academy on Monday, but with some much needed confidence the team is up for the challenge.
Varsity Softball
Last week, the Beaver Varsity Softball team improved its record to 1-1. On Monday the girls beat a very strong Portsmouth Abbey team 17-16. Zoe Sarason pitched an amazing game, racking up four strike outs and making 9 put outs to first. Arielle Silbersweig went 4 for 6 and scored four runs. Clara Dinkin and Zoe Sarason each scored 3 runs.
Varsity Baseball
Through the first few weeks of a rainy spring season, The Varsity Baseball team stands at 1 – 1. Lefty pitcher, Devon Friedfertig had a strong outing against Landmark, and the Beaver bats were alive on the day, as Beaver came away with a solid win. Last week the team faced a tough Concord Academy pitcher, and fell short. Senior Jherson Colon blasted a two run home run in the effort.
