Olumi, Cohen, and McLaughlin-Alves earn Athletic Accolades

Posted on December 17, 2012

This week, three student-athletes were honored with Athletic Accolades. Nima Olumi ’13, Niles Cohen ’16, and Irene McLaughlin-Alves ’17 received the award for their hard work and performance on the courts.

Nima Olumi ’13 – Squash
Nima has had two superb wins already this season. Both of his matches went to five games, and in both cases he was relentless. He has greatly improved his squash game this year and is a force to be reckoned with on the court. As a captain this year he has shown strength and leadership.
Niles Cohen ’16 – Junior Varsity Boys Basketball
Niles has been instrumental in leading the JV Boys Basketball team to a 4-0 record to begin the season. Only a freshman, Niles has exhibited excellent leadership skills from the point-guard position. In the season opener at Bancroft, Niles scored 16 points, including a perfect 3-3 from beyond the arc. This past week, he led the team to victory against Gann Academy, scoring 19 points while dishing out several assists in transition.
Irene McLaughlin-Alves ’17 –  Middle School Girls A Basketball

As the only returning member of this year’s ‘A’ team, Irene has taken on a leadership role on and off the court. She has guided our younger players and serves as a role model around the meaning of sportsmanship. A fierce competitor, Irene has been both an offensive and defensive threat in every game. As our leading point guard, her eyes are always surveying the court for a pass or shot.  Defensively, she is not afraid to strip the ball and create fast break opportunities for the team. She is committed to improving her game and pushing herself beyond the physical limits of the game.
