Four Beaver students competed at the recent 2012 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships in Worcester, MA. Paige D’Angelo ’15, Jilly Hughes ’13, Lauren Lapuck ’13, and Rebecca Wales ’14 took to the ice with their teams to compete for national championships.
The results of the competition were impressive with three national championship skaters returning to Beaver.
Jilly Hughes won a national championship while skating with the Star Mates in the Intermediate Division. This was a new team in the division, so capturing the championship was a major accomplishment.
Rebecca Wales’ team, the Ice Mates in the Novice Division, shattered the U.S. national record with a score of 81.48 – 5.5 points above the record and 15.1 points above their closest competition.
Lauren Lapuck skated in the Senior Division with the Haydenettes who once again captured the national championship. Lauren and her team will be headed to Sweden in April to compete in the world championships. Last year, the Haydenettes took home a bronze medal at worlds and are looking for more success this year.
Congratulations to everyone who competed and to our national champions!
