Winter Performing Arts Season Begins

The winter performing arts season kicks off with the upper school play (The Boal Original) and continues through the Choral & Chamber Concert, the middle school musical (The Wiz), and the Jazz Concert. You won’t want to miss any of these performances.

Upper School Winter Play – The Boal Original
Thursday, February 2, 7:00 p.m.
Friday, February 3, 7:00 p.m.

Black Box Theater

The Boal Original seeks to form an ensemble of passionate and talented young adults that will use the techniques of the world-renowned theatre practitioner Augusto Boal to create an original performance. Boal believed that theatre is a powerful weapon that can and should be used to engender social and political change. The ensemble will use images, movement, music, poetry, and dramatic scenes to share their view of the world and to shape their own powerful weapon of change.

Upper School Winter Chamber & Choral Concert
Wednesday, February 8, 7:00 p.m.
Bradley Hall

Winter-themed choral and instrumental music is sure to keep you warm during the Chorus and Chamber Ensemble’s second concert of the year.

Middle School Musical – The Wiz
Thursday, February 16, 7:00 p.m.
Friday, February 17, 7:00 p.m.

Winner of seven Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Original Score, The Wiz is a rock and soul re-telling of the beloved The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. With all the characters you love, some characters that you love to hate and one nasty tornado, The Wiz is sure to have you dancing in your seat.

Upper School Advanced Drama Play – Subway Circus

Black Box Theater

Subway Circus displays with considerable beauty, humor, and dramatic effect the dreams of some of the people who ride in a metropolitan subway. It is an ensemble poetic theater experience that weaves together the fantasies and hopes of characters dreaming for justice in a sometimes harsh and unfair world. This curricular play, performed by our advanced drama students is a culmination of their drama experience at Beaver.
