The first group of winter Athletic Accolades recipients were announced at the winter sports pep rally on Thursday, December 15. Kaila Duart ’13, Danny Getz ’13, and Josh Berland ’14 all have had outstanding starts to their winter seasons.
“Our first recipients of an Athletic Accolade in the winter season reflect the outstanding contributions that our student-athletes are making to the Beaver Community in and out of the classroom,” said Athletic Director Sherry Levin. “We are excited about the determination and leadership of are student-athletes this winter.”
Kaila Duarte ’13 – Girls’ Varsity Basketball
Kaila has led the girls’ basketball team in scoring in two of their three victories. In the team’s first game of the year at Berwick she had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Against Newton Country Day she had her second double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Her overall season stats are 9.5 points per game, 7 rebounds per game, 2 blocks per game and 3 steals.
Danny Getz ’13 – Boys’ JV Basketball
Danny has started the JV basketball season exuding the leadership qualities necessary for a successful season. He has made major contributions at practice, games, and most importantly supporting his teammates on and off the court. Danny leads the team in steals with 3.5 per game. His tenacious defense has helped the team to a 4-0 start.
Josh Berland ’14 – Varsity Wrestling
As a sophomore, Josh has already proven himself to be one of the top wrestlers on the team. Few, if any, matched his off-season effort this summer, and no one is calmer and more composed on match day. He is a dominate wrestler and a presence on the team. He refuses to be beaten, and is currently 7-0.
