In two hard-fought championship games, Beaver’s boys’ and girls’ basketball teams emerged as the 2011 Holiday Hoops Champions. The annual tournament, held in Beaver’s Athletic Center, features Beaver and teams from six other New England independent schools.
On Thursday, December 15, the Beaver girls took on Wheeler and came away with a 50-18 win to advance to the championship game. The boys moved on by defeated Kents Hill by a score of 67-32.
Both championship games on Friday, December 16, pitted Beaver against two extremely tough opponents. The girls fought to the final buzzer in a defensive struggle, finally outlasting Southfield by a score of 35-31, while the boys held off Suffield 62-57 in another close contest.
For their outstanding performances, Kaila Duarte ’13 and Jherson Colon ’13 were named girls’ and boys’ tournament MVPs respectively.
