Smith ‘Croft’-y as Beaver ‘Bulls’ its Way into EIL Play

Posted on April 9, 2011

Senior ace Sebastian Smith threw a complete game two-hitter as Beaver opened its Eastern Independent League schedule with a 2-1 win over the Bancroft Bulldogs in Worcester.

Senior captain Alex Jacobs paced Beaver going 2 for 4 with a run scored, while sophomore DH Nima Olumi went 1 for 2 with a walk and an RBI, as the Beaver 9 improved to 1-1 on the season.

Beaver would strike first in the 2nd when Alex Gosman drew a walk, advance to second on a Robbie Shaprio single through the left side and then come home when Olumi singled in his first plate appearance of the young season. Jacobs then led off the third with a single through the middle. After he reached second on throwing error, Jacobs was then plated by junior captain Connor Laubenstein’s RBI single. This would be all Smith would need as he would give up only two hits, one in the 1st and one in the 7th, while striking out 11 and facing just six batters over the minimum.

Beaver looks to build off this momentum as they host Chapel Hill-Chauncey Hall in their home opener on the Upper Field Wednesday, the 13th of April, at 3:45.
