As Beaver’s sports teams deal with snow cancellations and rescheduled games, three athletes stood out to earn this week’s Athletic Accolades: Meg Gegler ’12 (varsity volleyball), Rene Castro ’13 (boys’ varsity basketball), and Danny Getz ’13 (boys’ JV basketball).
“Meg Gegler has been a consistent force on the Beaver varsity volleyball team all season,” raves head coach Tiffany Marsh. “She averages about four kills per match with a season high of ten kills against Newton Country Day School. Meg is also one of our strongest blockers. She averages about three blocks per game with a season high of five blocks against Gann. Meg is also a powerful server. She is steady behind the back court line contributing solid serves and aces. Meg is always willing to get her team excited about the games and focused on playing our best. She has proven herself as a leader time and time again. As the season continues, Meg will continue to be a valuable contributor to our success as a team!”
Rene Castro scored his 1,000th career point during Beaver’s win against Bancroft. “That he reached this milestone in less than two years is a testament to his hard work and dedication,” says head coach Juan Castro. (For more on Rene’s achievement see the full news story.)
“Danny Getz has been a tremendous leader for the JV boys’ basketball team this year on and off the court,” said coach Eric Edwards. “He comes to each practice with a phenomenal attitude and great work ethic. Danny is averaging about five rebounds a game, and that has allowed us to get second chance opportunities on the offensive end.”
