Meet Beaver Senior Tommy Crisan ’24

Posted on July 1, 2023

What is life like as a Beaver student? We interviewed several students across all grades—from middle school to senior year—to get a peek into the Beaver student experience. Below you’ll hear from Tommy Crisan—a rising Beaver senior. Tommy shares his thoughts on senior year, the Student-Directed Projects he has completed, and more!

You’re a senior this year, congrats! What does your upcoming year look like?
This fall will be a busy and exciting term, as I apply to college and take classes. I am really excited for fall sports as I will be a captain on the varsity soccer team and am hoping that we can have a successful season. I am looking forward to Studio Art this year and the variety of classes that I have selected as well.

How do you feel you’ve grown during your time at Beaver? (Also, when did you start?)
I started in 7th Grade at Beaver. I have become a better student and writer while at the school. I am also much more confident presenting in front of my classes. I think that I have grown as an athlete, on the soccer field and on the basketball courts with my friends for fun.

What would you say is the BEST part of Beaver?
The best part of Beaver is the community. I have great friends, and my teachers are engaging and approachable. They help with all parts of learning. I also love the freedom surrounding how to present my work.

What’s a class you took or a project you worked on that you really enjoyed? Why?
Two classes that I have really enjoyed at Beaver are Songbook with Mr. Liebowitz, which was an English class that focused on studying musical artists, lyrics, and themes. I also really enjoyed working with Mr. Adjout on two SDPs, studying the Economics of Sports and Mental Health Issues in Recovering from Sports Injuries. Last spring, I worked with Ms. Gonzalez on another SDP studying the origin and evolutions of conspiracy theories.

Describe what it’s like to be a Beaver student.

Beaver students have a lot of freedom and independence on one hand, but a lot of support and encouragement on the other hand. We get to learn about interesting topics, and we get to pick our own topics to explore when we do a student-directed project. It’s fun to be at school and on the fields with my friends at Beaver. There is a good sense of teamwork and community.

What’s your favorite lunch?
The past few years, my favorite Beaver meal has been the hot breakfast that they serve the last week of the term. I like to get to school extra early during these few weeks to make sure I get breakfast every day.
