Beaver athletic fields are set for major upgrades to improve playing conditions and the fan experience across multiple sports in both the Middle and Upper Schools.
Interim Head of School Sarah Pelmas P’25 told students this week that when they return to campus next fall, the outdoor athletic facilities will be dramatically improved. The upgrades will raise the experience for athletes and fans of girls and boys soccer, baseball, softball, girls and boys lacrosse, field hockey, ultimate frisbee, and flag football.
Everyone at Beaver will benefit from this project, Pelmas said. Athletes will have safer, better surfaces to play on, fans will be more comfortable and protected from sun and rain, and our entire community will have a campus hub for everything from middle school recess to all-school events.

Specific upgrades to the Upper Field complex include new turf, lengthening the fields to better meet regulation size, expanded and elevated viewing stands, increased storage for athletic equipment, new scoreboards, and external bathrooms. The lower field, currently used primarily for softball, will have turf installed on the infield and other field improvements.
The project also involves removal of the current ropes course used by the Beaver Summer Camp and installing a new one adjacent to Cohn Terrace.
With school spirit high with Harvestfest around the corner, Director of Athletics and Fitness Alex Gould ’95 P’28 ’31 said the project represents the most comprehensive investment in outdoor athletics facilities Beaver has undertaken.
Our students deserve the best facilities we can provide to support them and their development as athletes. Beaver athletics are achieving great success, and this project will help propel our teams and our athletes forward.

The project is expected to break ground at the conclusion of the spring sports season and be ready for play in fall 2027.
