Hello, Middle School Students and Families! Here is a recap of today’s Middle School Meeting.

Brooklyn Nieves Farrell ’32 and Niamh Peyton ’32 ran today’s meeting. You can check out the slides from this week’s meeting here.

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, March 24, when we return from Spring Break!

The BVR Student

Dillon Morris ’30 and Jake Exantus ’30 presented Is Disciplined with Technology.

I think it’s important because if I don’t take care of spaces in our community, then others won’t have the same experience I did. It’s important to put materials away after you use them, for example, put caps on markers. I try to be kind to others because I would want others to treat me the same way. It makes the community stronger because no one hates each other.

Announcements

🎥 Juniors Kiernan Collins ’27 and Cooper Walton ’27 encouraged middle school students to submit films to the BVR Film Festival. This year’s theme is spoof. Students can submit films by emailing Kiernan at collinsk27@bcdschool.org with a Google Drive or YouTube link by March 24. All films must be under five minutes long and appropriate for school: no foul language, overly gory scenes, etc.

🦫 Mr. Castillo shared highlights from the Community Belonging survey results that students took in January.

Overall, students reported that

  • Their teachers have a significant positive impact on them.
  • Students also reported that our lunch and recess programming and afternoon activities had a positive impact on them.
  • An area of growth that students reported is the way students interact with each other.

Students can sign up to have a follow-up conversation with a faculty member of their choice to share more deeply about their experience at Beaver.

🎶 Winter Musical: Acting & Tech
Cat Townsend ’31 (actor) and Jack Ledley ’31 (technician)

Highlights:

Watching and being a part of the magic that came together to create the amazing performance we put on.
Performing the final show for an audience after we had put in all the work and time to make it.

Improvement as a group:

By going from excitement in the halls to putting all of that energy onto the stage, and making everyone in the audience laugh.
By learning each other’s strengths so that we could work together effectively.

We did daily sketchbook prompts, weekly special projects, and had plenty of time to work on passion projects. We also got to show our work in the school gallery and learn new ways to make art in the new printmaking studio. My favorite part was making watercolor paintings.
