Announcements
👟 Sophomores Abigail Zimman ’28 and Allie Kahn ’28 talked about SALT, the Student Athlete Leadership Team. SALT has been organizing a celebration for senior fall athletes, and Abigail and Allie encouraged the middle school to participate by signing the posters for seniors.
💬 It’s time to sign up for the winter season of Speech and Debate! On Wednesday nights, Beaver Middle School students and non-Beaver Middle School students meet with Lumos to practice speech and debate. Lumos helps students practice public speaking and critical thinking skills by discussing news, writing, politics, and hot-topic issues. There are even opportunities to go to debate tournaments. We encourage students who’ve never done it before to apply. Ms. Meahl sent a form to students today (students must use Ms. Meahl’s form, not the Lumos website).
📚 We introduced BVR’s new librarian, Ms. Kempkes. She is excited to meet students, suggest books, buy new books for our collection, and help students hone their research skills. She encourages students to talk to her about their reading interests!
🎨 Design Level guru Tim Barber has an art show, Hard Work, at Emmanuel College now through the end of the month. He is giving a talk at the gallery next Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.; all are welcome!
🎭 Tickets are still available for the Upper School Fall Play: Miss Holmes. Tickets are $8. The show is this week, November 6th, 7th, and 8th at 7 p.m. in Bradley Hall.
⭐️ Rose Scott ’30, a member of the yearbook staff last year, announced that yearbook design will begin soon. The staff designs the middle school pages of the yearbook, including candids, afternoon activities, and 8th-grade baby pictures. She encouraged middle school students to apply to be on the yearbook staff. Meetings begin next Wednesday and run through February.
🏫 Parent/Caregiver & Teacher Conferences continue this Friday, November 7. Students do not have school; students are encouraged to attend their conferences.

Fall Afternoon Activities Recap

Students recapped this fall’s afternoon activities, sharing a highlight of the season and something they learned.
🎭 Fall Play: Arionna Higgins ’30 (actor) and Mia Thorpe ’31 (technician):
Highlight: seeing the show come together. This season was shorter than last year’s, and it was amazing to see that we could create something so amazing in just shy of 2 months. building the set with my friends. It was very fun working on something that comes together to make a big structure and can be presented in front of people.
Improvement as a group: by focusing and being present in the space. This show had a lot happening in it, and if you were too engrossed in one thing, it could be easy to miss the next. But by being focused, we were able to stay on cue, by working on our skills of creating. Some examples of this were painting, building, and searching for objects. We also learned how to work together.
🖼️ Visual Art Workshop: Beau Rives ’31
Highlight: the amount of freedom that we had to choose the kind of artwork we wanted to make.
Improvement as a group: learned new processes, used new materials, and got a chance to make art in new ways.
⚽️ Girls Soccer: Elizabeth Zimman ’30 and Kennie Shea ’30
Highlight: we ended on a winning season!
Improvement as a group: working together as a team to connect passes
⚽️ Boys Soccer: Samir Kasrawi ’30 and Daniel Orloff ’30
Highlight: everyone’s skill level grew drastically from the start of the season to the end of the season. Everyone got to play, and we had a strong connection between teammates.
Improvement as a group: our group’s teamwork throughout the season; we improved as a team by being able to collaborate and include growth feedback into growing as a team and as players.
👟 Cross Country: Kieran Morrissey-Dhekne ’30
Highlight: racing states and then hanging out with the team afterwards.
Improvement as a group: how to pace ourselves for competitive races and to act as a team at all the races and practices.
🏈 Flag Football: Caleb Davis ’30 and Edward Li ’30
Highlight: In the 2nd game of the season, when we were down by 2 touchdowns, we ended up winning by 3 at the end of the game.
Improvement as a group: catching the ball more
🏐 Volleyball: Caroline Mitchell ’30 and Lesleigh Robin ’30
Highlight: all our team scrimmages, winning the majority of our games, and the candy salad at the end of the season. Teamwork, supportive, and fun team!
Improvement as a group: learning and practicing communication on the court, and our skill growth.
