Hello, Middle School Students and Families! Here is a recap of today’s Middle School Meeting.
Layla Gold ’30 and Esmeralda Wright ’30 ran todayβs meeting. You can check out the slides from this week’s meeting here.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
𦫠Students heard about Affinity spaces. Mr. Castillo, Middle School Director of Student Engagement and Inclusion, defined Affinity spaces as a safe space meant for students who share a particular identity, had each faculty advisor introduce themselves and their groups, and shared the list of groups and the schedule: Latinx, Jewish Heritage, Multi-Racial, Students of Single Parents/Divorced Parents (Caregivers): SSDP, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer, Intersex, Asexual (LGBTQIA)+, and Black/African Heritage.
β¨ Olivia Smith ’30 shared the recap from yesterdayβs Hiatt Leadership Institute:
My favorite part of the workshop was looking at people such as Albert Einstein and Martin Luther King Jr. to see what legacies they left behind. We played games, communicated, and illustrated ideas on our approach to creating our legacies in communities, including Beaver. It made me realize that anyone can make an impact and form a legacy, and it’s up to them how they want to create it.
Olivia Smith '30
The next Hiatt Leadership Institute is on October 20.
π Aki Cheung ’32 and Joey Kadamus ’32 announced that they are writing book recommendations for the 6th grade newsletter. They asked for book recommendations for them to include. Students can write the title, author, and a brief description of the book on a scrap of paper and drop it off in the small blue box with flowers on the back table near the bookshelves in Ms. FitzGerald’s room, room 205.
πΆ Music R-TIME starts today! Music R-TIME is for when students need help from a music teacher with assignments, for personal practice time, and for making up missing assignments. Music R-TIME is not a time for students to come down and hang out in a practice room alone or with friends. Students were reminded that anytime they leave R-TIME, they need to sign out with their advisor/the adult in the room, and they need to sign in when they get down to music R-TIME.

π I talked about recess. We’ve had a lot of injuries due to students not wearing their shoes at recess. I explained that shoes are required at school, and I highly encourage students to wear sneakers to school so they can run around and play at recess without getting hurt. I also reminded students that, even though recess is their free time, they are still at school, and we expect them to use appropriate and respectful language.
ποΈ We reminded students to let me know if they want to run a MS meeting and to pick up trash on their way out.
