Here are some highlights from Upper School clubs over the past month.
First Generation Club
The First Generation Club launched the “Project Pinpoint” initiative this month, an effort to celebrate where students come from. The club invited students to mark their unique connections to specific places around the globe by placing pins on a map installed outside of the dining hall. After just one week, the map transformed from a blank canvas to a rainbow of pins spanning across the world.
Trivia Club
Three Trivia Club members attended the Massachusetts State History Bowl and the Bee Championships in the same weekend. The trio competed as a team during the History Bowl but competed individually during the Bee Championships. Matt Skarin ’27 won third place in his division, qualifying for nationals.
BVR Model UN
12 BVR Model UN members were among the 2,000 that attended Boston University’s 24th Model UN Conference. Several awards were won by Beaver delegates, including “Best Delegate.” Individual student awards include:
- Sisi Proctor ’25: Outstanding Delegate
- Leila SaKoulis ’27: Honorable Delegate
- Sammy Wasserman ’26: Honorable Delegate
Acoustic Coffee House
Acoustic Coffee House hosted an open mic in the Rogers Room to celebrate the end of the term. In addition to vocal and instrument performances, the event also included poetry readings and comedy. With a buffet of snacks and an open invitation to all students, the open mic was the perfect way for the Beaver community to connect and unwind.
DECA
12 DECA teams (38 students in total) qualified for the State Conference in Boston. Of those 12, 9 were able to attend the conference, competing in categories such as Franchise Business Plan, Business Solutions, and Innovation Plan. Beaver had 2 events rank in Massachusetts’ top 10, including:
- Alex Jacoby ’26: 8th place in Financial Consulting
- Brody Van DerNoot ’26, Neal Mahidar ’26, and Zack Gross ’25: 4th place in Franchise Business Plan
Brody, Neal, and Zack have qualified to compete at the international conference (ICDC) in Orlando, Florida later this year. This is Zack Gross’ second time competing at the international level (read about the first here!).
Math Club
Math Club created and hosted a Math Tournament for Middle School students. Dozens of students competed, with club members guided the group through various timed stages of the tournament. The event was an opportunity for Math Club members to share their passion for math through some friendly competition.
