US Weekly Wrap-Up: 04.14.23

Here is a short wrap-up from this past week – April 10 through April 14 —in the Upper School.

On Monday, US meetings and Advisory helped students start the week with some exciting announcements. First, details about SpringFest 2023 were shared. The evening of food trucks, games, and live music will take place Friday, April 14. Next, 9th and 10th grade students were reminded of the upcoming semiformal dance “A Night to Remember” that will take place on Friday, April 28. Students that would like to reserve tickets should use the link sent out by Ms. Ching and Mr. Eaton.

Seniors and juniors went on field trips on Tuesday afternoon to have fun off campus. Juniors visited a trampoline park and got moving throughout the various obstacle courses and attractions. Seniors went to a rollerskating rink where they skated, played pool against teachers, and enjoyed music.

On Wednesday, Advanced Engineering students visited Hebrew SeniorLife to meet with seniors and learn more about who they are and challenges they may be experiencing. Based on their observations, students will be developing prototypes for their HSL partners that will enhance their quality of life. Students are 4 weeks into this project and will continue to develop ideas for the following weeks.

At US Meetings on Thursday, R+D ambassadors shared information about an upcoming sustainable clothing pop-up take will take place Friday, April 21. The event will include “wildflower bomb” stations, bleach tie-die stations, and more information on fast fashion. The Hiatt Summer Fellowship, BVR Film Festival, and exec board elections were also discussed.

On Friday, multiple students participated in a National Day of Silence to bring attention to the silencing of LGBTQ+ voices. A board was placed by Beaver’s entrance for students to write why they are participating and what the day means to them. In the afternoon, a gathering was held to break the silence and celebrate LGBTQ+ voices. To learn more about this event, click here.

SpringFest took place after school on Friday.
