Beaver’s Outstanding Young Alumni Award recognizes a graduate within the last 20 years (1994-2014) who has shown outstanding performance, competence and achievement in a professional field and/or volunteer commitment.
We are honored to posthumously award Sarita Wright Lucas ’99 with the 2015 Young Alumni Award.
Born in Boston in 1981, Ms. Lucas was always bright and beautiful. She entered Beaver in 6th grader and graduated in 1999. Ms. Lucas excelled academically, and during her time on campus, she won several awards for her prowess in field hockey and lacrosse. Ms. Lucas attended Barnard Columbia College in New York, and following graduation, completed internships at the Davis Polk Wardell Law Firm in New York City and with the Boston Municipal Court in the appeals department. Ms. Lucas graduated from Suffolk Law School and subsequently joined the Delaware Department of Justice in Wilmington as Deputy Attorney General. In August 2014, Ms. Lucas was appointed Head of the Wilmington Trial Unit.
On May 18, 2012, she married her long-time love, Antonio Lucas, who she met her freshmen year of college. Ms. Lucas was ecstatically 6 months pregnant with her first child when she passed away at age 33 on September 21, 2014.
Ms. Lucas’s colleagues always spoke of her passion for justice and commitment for “doing the right thing”. She was a tireless advocate at work, and a loving, loyal wife, sister, and daughter. She is sorely missed.
