(updated 03.05.21)

March 30 through May 28

BVR Spring Athletics will begin on March 30 (after Spring Break) and end around May 28 (team dependent). Starting our season after Spring Break will give our students more opportunities to play and (potentially) compete. In addition, we are extending our spring season—which would usually end in mid-May—to late May. Coaches will be in touch with their teams to share a training program and expectations for the season.

Athletes in Group 1 and Group 2 will have the opportunity to practice together. Athletes will have the choice to come to campus on their “off” campus days to practice with their team in person. We recognize this isn’t logistically an option for all families, so athletes will not be required to come to campus on their online learning days; it is an option and opportunity. Sport-specific training programming will continue to be provided for all students who are remote.

All teams will have four days of in-person training (and potentially, competitions) and one day of remote training. This will help us de-densify our practice spaces and continue to comply with local and state guidelines.

Practice times: 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

  • Students who are on campus with their academic group will start practice at 3:30 p.m.
  • Students who are coming to campus after learning remotely are asked to arrive no later than 4:30 p.m.
  • Everyone must be off campus by 5:45 p.m.

* Varsity tennis will occasionally have evening practices from 7 to 9 p.m.

Returning to play after a COVID-19 diagnosis

Due to the nature of the virus and its potential lasting health effects on the cardiopulmonary system, any student with a prior confirmed diagnosis (positive test) for COVID-19 is required to undergo an assessment with their physician prior to returning to participation in sports or fitness activities. Any ongoing symptoms related to COVID-19 should be further examined, including the presence of chest pain or shortness of breath with exertion, heart palpitations, excessive fatigue, or decreased exercise tolerance.

Written medical clearance is required prior to participation in sports. This clearance is separate from the physical exam submitted to the health office annually and is required only of students who have had a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis and want to continue to participate in fitness activities and sports at school. In consideration of keeping our information current, please complete this Athletics and Fitness Attestation form.

At a minimum, in order to be cleared to play after a positive COVID-19 diagnosis, please submit the following to the Athletic Trainer, Alyssa Hart:

  • Written clearance by a physician and documentation that a screening has occurred with a detailed history and normal exam, including a normal ECG screening.
  • Any other pertinent information and documentation that applies.
