Weekly Athletics Write-Up 10/14/14

Girls Varsity Soccer –

The Girls Varsity Soccer team began last week with a tough ISL opponent in Thayer Academy. The team played well, but could not convert on a number of scoring opportunities, and lost 1-0. After a solid week of practice, the girls get back into action on Wednesday against EIL foe Bancroft, then travel to Wheeler for a non-conference game on Saturday.

Boys Varsity Soccer –

The Boys Varsity Soccer team won two EIL matches this week against Landmark on Monday and Pingree on Wednesday. Jesse Roberts ’17 recorded shutouts in both matches as the boys won 8-0 (vs. Landmark) and 2-0 (vs. Pingree). Captain, Sam Bacherman ’15 tallied the game winner against Pingree on a feed from Max Cottrell ’16. This week, the boys will travel to Bancroft on Wednesday and then Wheeler on Saturday. The team currently stands at 7-0-1 in league play.

Varsity Volleyball –

The Varsity Volleyball team suffered a loss against Pingree this past week. Despite the result, the game showed vast improvement from Jasmine Breakstone ’16 and Vida Bailey ’17 who have seen increased roles on the team over the past few weeks. Jasmine has demonstrated one of the most consistent serves on the team and Vida has shown great blocking at the net.

Varsity Field Hockey –

Beaver Field Hockey lost their game this week to the high ranked Winsor School, with a final score of 7-0. The field hockey team keeps pushing forward towards progress, and is preparing for a competitive game against Bancroft next Wednesday. The team is showing support for breast cancer awareness month by wearing bursts of pink on game days. The team would like to invite fans and family to do the same for the remainder of the month.

Varsity Cross Country –

The Boys Varsity Cross Country Team ran hard this past week, recording a win over Bancroft School (23-35) and falling to Concord Academy (42-17) and Landmark School (40-17).  Against a stacked field of 54 runners, Leo Connelly ’15 lead the way to finish 10th for Beaver, followed by captain Sam Glenn ’16 in 11th and Ryan Joy ’17 in 14th. Rounding out the scoring members of the team were Charlie McDonald ’18 and captain Clay Starr ’15, both finishing in Beaver’s top 5 for the first time this year. Next Wednesday, the team will take on Berwick Academy and Providence Country Day in the last home meet of the year at Larz Anderson Park.


The Girls Varsity Cross Country Team competed hard this week, losing to a tough team from Concord Academy (39-22) and coming within a point of Bancroft School (28-27) and Landmark School (29-28).  Libby Pohl ’17 continued her winning ways, coming in 1st for the third straight meet.  She was joined by top ten finisher Michaela Markwart ’18 in 6th place and team members Nichole Irving ’16, captain Catherine Wei ’15, and Lexi Duarte ’16 to score for Beaver. Next Wednesday, the team will take on Newton Country Day, Berwick Academy, and Providence Country Day in the last home meet of the year at Larz Anderson Park.
