Weekly athletics write-up: 12/16/13

Boys’ basketball
The Boys Basketball Team defeated Bancroft 66-17 for the first EIL League victory of the season. The team will be in the Rivers Holiday Tournament December 19-21. Their first game will be vs. St. Sebastian’s at 7 p.m. at St. Sebastian’s.

Girls’ basketball
The Beaver girls varsity basketball team played one game this past week vs. EIL opponent Newton Country Day School. Beaver started out strong and never looked back. The final score, 40-11, reflected the efforts of the entire team.

Girls’ ice hockey
The Girls Varsity Ice Hockey team travelled north last week to Berwick Academy. It was a tough loss for the team, but they have shown significant improvement over the first few weeks of the season. Led by captains Maya Blair ’14, Noel Hoyt ’14, and Claire Mills ’15, the team continues to compete with every team they play. The girls face off against Newton Country Day School Tuesday afternoon in their last game before winter break.

Squash
The Beaver Squash Team had its first match against Concord Academy, and a tough match it was. The team played very hard and had some close games but fell to Concord 7-0. Chris Smith and Clay Starr have done a great job in leading their team in practice and match play. The team showed heart in their defeat and look to go head to head with a tough Belmont Hill team on Monday.
